I know what it is like to be an artist. Having the ability to create a piece of art is amazing. Knowing that you made it yourself, with your own hands, knowing that your creativity was poured into a piece of artwork. I believe that everyone has the abilities to be an artist, even if they don’t naturally have the skills. Everything around us is art, you just have to look at it in a different way, in a way nobody else does.
A blank canvas is as beautiful as a canvas that has already been painted on. The blank canvas is there waiting for you to spill your ideas on it, that’s where its beauty comes from. It does not demand anything in particular to be painted on it, you can freely paint whatever you would like. You cannot simply tell an artist what to draw or paint, if that artist wants to paint flowers then they will paint flowers, if that same artist wants to paint dead bodies then they will paint those dead bodies. Telling an artist what they have to paint is like shutting down their brain, their creativity is pushed away and there is no joy in painting what is asked of them. Being told exactly what to paint is not pleasant, the fun and heart is taken away from the piece of art, most people wouldn't see it, they would miss it completely and that piece of art would just be normal, there would be no feelings coming from it.
Every painting, every drawing, has its own story behind it. Not only do these pieces of artwork have their own stories to them, but also each and every one of them has their own emotions that were sunk into them from the very first stroke the paintbrush made on the canvas. I believe that if you look closely at a painting you will be able to see and feel what the artist was feeling at the time. When you actually get to experience pouring your emotions onto a canvas or piece of paper the feeling is like no other. It’s peaceful and welcoming. Looking at the piece of art you just poured you emotions onto you can see every feeling it was that you were experiencing.. It’s crazy really because its like you are watching your feelings, like they are right in front of you.
At times when I get upset I will paint or draw. When I go to paint I do not paint landscapes or portraits because I do not think that the world is worth drawing, I simply just paint exactly how I am feeling, even if it turns out looking like a bunch of random colors spilled together. You can’t necessarily feel the emotions in an abstract painting, but you can certainly see them. To see this you just have to look at the colors in the artwork, colors can say everything that hasn’t yet been told about the painting.
When an artist has found inspiration they automatically go and try to draw or paint it out before it leaves their brains. Once inspiration leaves it is pretty hard to get it back, or find something new to inspire you. Literally anything can inspire an artist, it could be that cup of tea you had before you left your house in the morning or the plant in your living room. Inspiration can come at anytime, because of this I always have a notebook and a pen with me. I draw on everything because it is a way that helps you not to forget about things, like if something important happens I will draw something that will remind me of that event. I know how it feels to be an artist.
